But I will say as a new hearing grad student at Gallaudet without much signing background, it's definitely a challenge. Not just ASL, but cultural norms that are different, as well.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;But I think one major difference is that most Deaf people have to go out into the hearing world every day from the moment they're born, whereas hearing people can live their entire lives without having to spend an hour in the Deaf world.
